A Grange home built on a sloping block won one of the 2019 Master Builders Brisbane Housing and Construction Housing Awards in July 2019.
Eco Building Services Pty Ltd recently bagged the MB Brisbane Housing and Construction award for Individual Home $751,000 – $950,000 for their Grange Residence project.
Master Builders Housing & Construction Awards recognise the most outstanding homes, projects, and people in Queensland’s housing and construction industry. Apart from the biggest names in the industry, the awards are also open to apprentices, trade contractors, and small family businesses.
“The one thing Brisbane has a lot of, is hills. Not just any hills, but some really steep hills. As was the case for this beautifully designed Grange home,” Eco Building Services said about their award-winning Grange project located on Greenway Street.
Eco Builders said that working on a sloping block requires careful consideration in terms of logistics and it presents many challenges especially with retaining walls.
The Grange home was designed by the award winning architect Julie Borgelt of Borgelt & Craig which features a 20-metre lap pool on the side of the hill, which was the first to be built, that created a solid anchoring position for the rest of the house.
The property has three retaining walls that prevents water ingress into the home and also helps regulate temperature in and around it via the two services corridors that separate the retaining wall from the rest of the house.
“Material selection is critical in these homes to keep costs down, without losing any luxury. Blocks and concrete are an ideal choice for building on sloping blocks.
“However, too much concrete and block can get overly industrial.
“To soften the mood, we have installed a custom sustainable Eco Marine Ply and sealed it with a low VOC sealer.
“The end result is a beautiful custom home designed and built to take advantage of its natural surrounds.”
